Tournament Summary
The very first SVE Master Championships concluded last weekend, and represented the first major tournament for the BP05 meta, with 77 participants from across the world vying for a chance at the $500 USD Prize Pool and their choice of an SVE Ambassador Token. After a gruelling 10 hours of intense competition, the victor emerged from Australia, in the form of Mid Range Elephant.
Reassuringly, the Tier List that we put out at the start of the expansion appeared relatively accurate, as out of the five different archetypes to make the top cut, four of the Tier 1 decks managed to take home their share of 500 USD. And yet, not all tier 1 decks are made equal, as the two decks to beat both hailed from Havencraft, in the form of Egg Haven and Aegis Haven. Conversely, despite a respectable final placement in the tournament, Usurpation Sword and Elephant Forest were significantly less popular, but clearly still very powerful decks.
The surprise of the tournament came from Prussia's Ramp Dragon deck, which managed to sweep swiss 7-0 before falling to Aegis Haven in the top 8. The match was streamed on our YouTube Channel. As a deck overlooked by the community, is it something that requires further investigation going into future BP05 tournaments for this expansion?
A special note from the Tournament Organisers
Thank you to everyone, from the participants, all the way through to the audience tuning into the stream. We created this event purely out of a love for the game and the following theory:
- That SVE players would like at least one major event per expansion
- And that online webcam tournaments were a viable way to achieve this
The entire admin team on the day (except for one person) were all from Australia, working on a purely voluntary basis to bring you the event from 11pm AEST all the way through to 10am in the morning. While the event didn't go perfectly (it was an event of many first times), we think it went well, and I hope that everyone who participated or watched the stream had a good time.
A special shoutout to Different Fight, who volunteered his time to provide a guest cast in the grand finals as well!
