For those outside the know, Code Geass is a popular mecha anime series, having sold millions of DVDs and Blu-ray volumes, and is extremely popular worldwide. Having won multiple awards over the decades, its first and second seasons are currently rated 56th and 20th respectively on My Anime List. It has since spawned several spinoffs, a movie sequel, and it is now making its way to Shadowverse Evolve in an English edition collaboration.

The series focuses on the exiled prince Lelouch Lamperouge, who obtains a supernatural power called "Geass", which allows him to issue commands to others that cannot be refused. This sets into motion the events of the story, where Lelouch utilises Geass to lead a widescale rebellion against the Holy Britannian Empire, to uncover the truth behind his mother's death, and create a better world for his younger sister.

If you haven't watched the show, there's no better time to start. Even if you don't have time for the television series, there have been three condensed movies that cover the original plot of Code Geass. For those that have watched the series, this article will cover the key collaboration details incoming. There may be some minor spoilers, but it will at least ensure that you understand the inevitable memes that come with the collaboration.

The Collaboration

The Code Geass collaboration features eight characters from the series as below:

  • Abyss: Lelouch Lamperouge
  • Rune: Cornelia li Brittania, Jeremiah Gottwald
  • Dragon: Li Xingke, Kallen Kozuki
  • Sword: Suzaku Kururugi
  • Haven: Charles Zi Brittannia
  • Forest: C.C

Each of these characters comes with a Leader Card that can be pulled from packs, as well as alternate art versions of cards within BP04. For those who only care about card values, here's our initial price guide for the various leaders:

Lelouch (Signed) >>> C.C >> Lelouch > Kallen > Cornelia/Jeremiah > Suzaku > Charles/Xingke.

Lelouch Lamperouge

"The only ones who should kill are those prepared to be killed."

One of the most memorable quotes in the series, it emphasises Lelouch's unwavering resolve and one of his many principles. Lelouch is a gifted strategist (just don't look at how he made an illegal move in Chess and nobody called him out on it lol) and blessed with charisma. He is able to turn a rag-tag group of terrorists into the fearsome Black Knights, who aim to win back the rights of the Japanese, and liberate Area 11, turning it back into Japan. And yet little do they know, they are just a means to Lelouch's hidden ambitions.

The collaboration features Lelouch in his signature outfit as the Leader of the Black Knights, Zero. Lelouch has two collaboration cards. One of them is Emperor's Command, the alternate art of Grave Desecration, which is an amulet that can quickly fill the cemetary and add followers with the Departed trait back into your hand. He also has an alt art of Demonlord Eachtar, a menacing boss monster that floods the board and enhances their attack and defence. In addition, Lelouch has a special ultimate rare version of Demonlord Eachtar, as well as a leader card AND a signed version of the leader card!

Kallen Kozuki

"We're not Elevens! We're Japanese!"

The ace-pilot of the Black Knights, who faces off against Suzaku Kururugi in combat and their ideals.

Despite being half-Britannian and half-Japanese, Kallen considers herself Japanese at heart. While pretending to be a frail and low-profile noble at school, she secretly leads a double life as one of the rebels acting against Britannia's oppression of the Japanese people. She becomes the most skilled fighter in Lelouch's army and later becomes part of Zero's elite guard.

She is seen wearing her trademark piloting suit in her Leader Card. She also comes with two different alternate arts. One of them is the alternate art of Lightning Blast, an almighty Dragoncraft spell that can banish any follower or amulet for 5pp, but can enhance its effect to eliminate everything on their field for 10pp. She also has an alternate art for Sibyl of the Waterwyrm, a strong ramp card that can gain additional stats and heal the leader.

Suzaku Kururugi

"When you gain results the wrong way what are you left with at the end? Only a dark regret and a deep emptiness that has nowhere to go."

As the first pilot of a 7th Generation Knightmare Frame, a completely broken mech that can 1v9 effortlessly, Suzaku serves as one of the primary antagonists within the show, despite neither Lelouch nor Suzaku being aware of their respective identities. While Lelouch attempts to change the corrupt nature of the Britannian Empire through force, Suzaku has committed himself to changing them from within, seeking redemption for his past actions.

Despite being childhood friends, the two of them undergo two very different paths, with neither of them being able to accept the other's moral code. It is only fitting that Suzaku is part of the Swordcraft class (Royal in Japanese), where he serves the Royalty, rather than fight against it.

His collaboration cards include a Leader Card and the alternate art of Cyclone Blade, an AOE spell that can deal damage to enemy followers equal to the attack of one of your Commanders. Sheesh, they took the spinzaku meme and gave him a card that also does AOE.

C.C

All I have left are my memories from when I was a witch. Other than that, I don’t even know if I was ever human to begin with.Every person who has ever hated me and each and everyone that has showed me any kindness are gone forever; they’ve vanished into the current of time.

Always existing with the endless flow of eternity, I am utterly alone.

The mysterious witch who grants Lelouch the power of Geass after being shot by a group of Britannian soldiers. She later reappears as an observer to Lelouch's ambitions, enjoying the delicious, cheesy taste of Pizza Hut (yes, this was an actual collaboration within the show).

In the collaboration, she has her own leader card and features as alternate arts to two different forestcraft cards. The first is Cassiopeia, a powerful follower that does damage to enemy followers based on the number of cards in your hand and EX area. The second is Spring Green Protection, an amulet that can buff your Forestcraft followers and generate Wisp Tokens for later combo plays.

Charles zi Brittannia

"All men are not created equal!"

Possibly the most based character in Code Geass. Just watch the below Youtube video on how he goes into a literal speech on how Communism and Democracy both prevent the advancement and evolution of its people and how Britannia embraces inequality, which leads to true progress. ALL HAIL BRITANNIA!!!!!

He also serves as one of the primary antagonists within the series as the almighty emperor of Britannia. Many fans of the series will also want him, simply because of the epic (/hilarious) way he says Lelouch in the subbed version of the show. Definitely give it a listen.

In the Collaboration, he comes as both a Leader, and the alternate art version of Globe of the Stairways. The collaboration card is a powerful consistency tool for Amulet Haven, which can search for any Amulet. In addition, it has a quick effect that allows it to draw a card. This can be handy in situations like when you leave 4pp open to threaten removal such as Acolyte's Light, to which if the opponent doesn't play into it, you can draw a card and not waste mana!

Li Xingke

"I made a vow to Her Majesty. And because of that... I pledge my life for to her safety and happiness, no matter the cost."

Li Xingke is the powerhouse pilot of the Chinese Federation, one of the three major powers (the other two being Britannia and the Unite Republic of Europia). In the Code Geass universe, the Chinese Federation is ruled in name by the Empress, and yet in reality, is the head of a puppet government of Eunuchs controlling the country. Li Xingke is immensely loyal to the Empress, who once spared his life after he was sentenced to death. Holding a promise with her to one day bring her to the outside world, Li Xingke is driven by his desire to fulfil his promise, yet plagued with a seemingly terminal illness which threatens to cut his ambitions short.

In the collaboration, he comes as a Dragoncraft Leader with an alternate art of the Discard Dragon support Dragonewt Fist. This card, when discarded, goes straight into the EX zone, allowing you to cast its effect while serving as "free discard fodder".

Cornelia Li Brittania

"You the Japan Liberation Front; You whose time has left behind; You who have forgotten basic human decency; You and your dream of a bygone golden age shall fall and rot to nothingness."

Known as Brittania's "Goddess of Victory', Cornelia is the second princess of the Britannian Imperial Family and serves as one of the antagonists within the first season of the anime. Lelouch targets her as a potential witness in the murder of her mother, while Cornelia pursues "Zero", Lelouch's alter ego as the leader of the terrorist group, The Black Knights. She is shown to care immensely for her siblings, which explains her cold demanor to non-Britannians, and her later actions in the show after a certain... incident occurs.

In the collaboration, she comes as a Runecraft Leader and the scry card Chain of Calling, which allows you to look at the top 5 cards of your deck and add a Runecraft follower to your hand. It also refunds a play point if you have enough spells in your cemetary!

Jeremiah Gottwald

"Orange is the colour of my loyalty"

*Yes, there are some spoilers below, but then again, so is his leader card so meh?

Everyone's favourite character. Initially portrayed as an elite Knightmare pilot that was obsessed with Puristy supremacy within Britannia, he is hoodwinked by Lelouch, who plunges his reputation into the gutter after being called "Orange Boy", making people suspect him of being a terrorist collaborator.

He later finds redemption in pledging his allegiance to Lelouch, who is the son of the Empress he once swore to protect. In an ironic twist of fate, Orange becomes the colour of his loyalty.

In the collaboration, he receives a leader card, and an alternate artwork of the Dirt Rune card, Concentration, which is exceptional in its ability to heal the leader while drawing cards. Think about it, you can have JEREMIAH GOTTWALD and MILLIE PARFAIT in the same deck. Nice.

Conclusion

The Code Geass collaboration is nearly upon us, and my excitement is at an all time high right now! I'm hoping to pull either Lelouch or C.C Leader (don't we all?), but I think it's going to be awesome bringing up old memes and seeing new faces in the SVE community.

Of course for the people without much luck with their pulls (probably me, if my Itsuki Mitsutagawa from Set 3 is to be believed), you can also purchase cards in Set 4 on TCGPlayer via the following affiliate link. It helps support the site and keeps us running!
